| Title | Racial/ethnic group attitudes toward environmental protection in California: Is "environmentalism" still a white phenomenon? |
| Comments | The authors examined data from the California Field Poll, a longitudinal study, to compare environmental attitudes of African American, Latino/a and White California residents. Their analysis demonstrates that environmental support among whites is declining while it is rising among African Americans and Latino/as. Concern among people of color is particularly strong for issues directly related to their communities, providing support for the “environmental depravation†thesis, which states that those exposed to a particular environmental problem will be the most concerned about it. |
